The first service of Easter is the Great Vigil of Easter. The service begins outside the Narthex around a fire or light as a symbol of Christ our Light and process into the church by candlelight following the Paschal Candle. Old Testament lessons will be read by candlelight and Baptismal Vows are renewed. Next, candles at the Altar are lighted from the Paschal Candle and the service concludes with the Holy Eucharist.
